What counts as recovery evidence for a small business?
Recovery evidence is a dated record that an approved person restored a named business record or configuration from a protected backup into a safe location, checked the result, measured the time, recorded gaps, and assigned the next correction.
What the business should be able to see
- Name the records, configurations, credentials, and dependencies the business needs to resume a defined operation.
- Protect backup access and copies from the same failure, account, device, or destructive event as the working system.
- Practice a safe restore and first-hour sequence before an incident, then record what actually worked.
What this definition cannot establish
- A successful sample restore does not prove that every record, system, dependency, or recovery scenario will work.
- Do not reconnect, overwrite, or destroy possible evidence during a suspected incident without qualified direction.
